The presence of a curator’s work in the exhibition is a subtle matter. Indeed, the series presented is a part of a story of a travelling curator. During the 10 years Mindaugas has been running the festival, a lot of time was dedicated to travelling to exhibitions, festivals, portfolio reviews, making the environment of aviation an important and appropriated environment of his own, later adopted as scene for his pictures. For a creator of documentary photography, it seemed too painful to let the scenes of aviation routine fade into the dust of time. After seeing hundreds of exhibitions, books, in 2007, Mindaugas concluded that hardly any photographers are interested in air travel experience as a subject. In 2008, during his trips between Europe, USA, Asia and Australia brought the first images. It was partly because the camera in the bag was idling badly. In 2009, a title for the work came up to be travel’AIR. The series focuses on the human experience of air travel.
Travel’AIR pictures were exhibited in EUROCONTROL headquarters in Brussels and Prospektas Photography Gallery in Vilnius. In 2013 travel’AIR was published as a monograph.
