Backstage. The new Clergy
It’s all about museums during the set-up of exhibitions. Although the photographer’s point of view focuses on the museum object itself, both a subject of devotion as an artwork and a precious commodity, and – more mundanely – a mere work material that will be manipulated, a delicate object endowed with volume and weight. The professionals possess the cultural precision that provides an epic dimension to their most simple gesture and attitude. The banal becomes fantastic.
These images are the result of “cartes blanches” given by Musée d’Orsay and Réunion des Musées Nationaux to Nicolas Krief: they fit into a wider project conducted in the backstage of several important French museums.
